Hey, this is my first blog so here we go!!

We have been in the mist of coughs and snot over the past four weeks with all three kiddies coughing up all sorts of gremlins! Its been a hard slog with many a sleepless night especially with my baby Marley who isnt old enough to be coughing up said gremlin.  As well as cutting out dairy I have increased the use of “star foods” which are medicinal for coughs.

These include:

  • apricot
  • broccoli
  • brown rice
  • cabbage
  • carrot
  • cinnamon
  • lime
  • mango
  • courgette
  • fennel
  • garlic
  • ginger
  • honey
  • horseraddish
  • leek
  • lemon
  • manuka honey
  • onion
  • orange
  • papaya
  • pumpkin
  • sweet potatoe
  • thyme.
  • lettuce

Manuka honey is a treat for my older two as they love it and I find it to work well with a tea spoon before bedtime, which is really soothing and contains natural antibiotic properties. Dylan loves his cup of honey tea too which I have listed below.

I also have been bombarding them with vitamin C which is anti-inflammatory and beta-carotene which have antioxidants to help the immune cells fight infection. Beta-carotene is the plant based form of vitamin A and is needed to protect the mucous membranes. The fruit and veg rich in this are brightly coloured and include carrots, sweet potatoes and green leafy veg! A good source of vitamin C include, citrus fruit, peppers and kiwi, the kids have had smoothies coming out of their ears!

When the kids are ill I go into overdrive boosting their immune system to fight the bugs and I find homeopathy brilliant too, but I’ll talk about that on another post. One thing I did try was a Antioxidant Tonic which was to boost them back to full health, this was to juice, 4 organic carrots, 3 sticks of organic celery, 1 small clove of garlic, 2 ripe tomatoes amd a sprig of parsley…….well the look of disgust when I offered this one up was a picture and was flatly refused!!!!! so although its all very good in theory I know its not always as easy in practise!!!!

Anyway enough of my disasters, here’s the honey tea which goes down a treat!

  • 1 cup of boiling water
  • 2-3 cloves
  • 1 tsp Manuka honey
  • Pour the water over the cloves and leave for 10mins. Remove the cloves and add the honey.

Ask your kiddie to sip it slowly. This is lovely and warming to the chest.

Right that’s it from me for tonight, hope you like my first post, Id love any feedback, funny stories, experiences and recipes you’ve  forced on your family!!!??
